The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan) Scheme, India’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer program, is set to disburse its 18th installment in October 2024. This follows the successful release of the 17th installment in June 2024, which benefited over 9.2 crore farmers with a total payout of Rs.21,000 crores.
Launched in the 2019 budget, PM Kisan provides annual financial assistance of Rs.6000 to eligible landholding farmers. The amount is credited in three equal installments of Rs.2000 each. This support aims to supplement farmers’ incomes, covering agricultural inputs, farming-related activities, and household expenses.
Recent installment release timeline:
- 17th installment: June 2024
- 16th installment: February 2024
- 15th installment: November 2023
- 14th installment: July 2023

The scheme, fully funded by the central government of India, targets farmers who own cultivable land. Its primary objective is to offer a supplementary income source, enabling better farm practices and increased yields.
State governments and Union Territories are responsible for identifying eligible beneficiaries. Once identified, the central government transfers funds directly to the farmers’ accounts, ensuring efficient and transparent disbursement of benefits.
